Horse of the Month

I just wanted to introduce Five O'Clock Doc. Doc is a 4 year old registered Paint. I just purchased him this Spring. Doc is my dream horse. He loves people and wants to be around you all the time. Recently an Equine Search and Rescue program was started on the Island and is part of Arrowsmith Search & Rescue which Doc and I are a part of. We are trained in Search and Rescue on horseback. Recently we did a 'mock training search' for 3 people that had gone missing in the mountains. We travel through all sorts of terrain, crossing bear paths, and sometimes are accompanied by ATVs none of which phase him. Doc, considering he just turned 4, is so brave. Even if other horses are refusing to move forward or go through a river, he'll walk right by them and lead them through. He is so calm and level headed that my 3 year old daughter can ride him. He also has a sense of humour. I like to sweep the shavings away from his feed area before I hang his feed bucket. While I sweep, he paws the ground thinking he's helping speed up the process.
